Philosophy — Tier 3 Family Indexes
Tier 3 of the Philosophy library hosts dense reference catalogs that complement the conceptual Tier 1/Tier 2 notes. Where the upper tiers explain what an idea is, Tier 3 lists who, when, and where — the named entities a researcher cites by surname and year.
Tier 1 status
The Tier 1 root Philosophy library index is published and links to six Tier 2 surveys:
- Epistemology
- Metaphysics and Ontology
- Ethics and Moral Philosophy
- Philosophy of Mind and Language
- Philosophy of Science
- AI Ethics and Alignment
Tier 2 status
Six Tier 2 surveys are complete (one per branch listed above). Future Tier 2 expansions planned: Political Philosophy, Aesthetics, Philosophy of Religion, Logic and Formal Methods, Non-Western Philosophy as standalone branches.
Tier 3 catalogs in this folder
- philosopher-catalog — chronological catalog of ~80+ named philosophers across Western, Islamic, Jewish, Indian, Chinese, and Japanese traditions. Dates, schools, major works, key concepts. The default starting point when a user asks “who was X” or “what did Y argue.”
- philosophical-positions-catalog — taxonomy of named positions across epistemology, metaphysics, philosophy of mind, ethics, free will, philosophy of science, and philosophy of religion. Each row gives the canonical statement, proponents with year, standard objections, and modern defenders.

- schools-and-movements-catalog — schools and movements from Pre-Socratic to contemporary (Vienna Circle, Frankfurt School, Kyoto School, New Confucianism, postcolonial, Africana, feminist waves) with founders, dates, principal figures, doctrines, canonical works.
