Engineering Codes by Discipline — Family Index

Companion to standards-bodies. Where the standards-bodies note catalogs the organizations that publish (ASME, ISO, IEC, NFPA, FAA, FDA, …), this note catalogs the codes themselves organized by discipline, with code number, revision, and scope. SI units primary. Code numbers and revisions reflect editions current as of 2026-05.

A standard is a voluntary technical specification. A code is a standard adopted by an authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) such that compliance becomes legally enforceable. The same document (e.g., NFPA 70) is a standard until a jurisdiction’s electrical-licensing law incorporates it by reference; then it is a code. Codes typically reference standards.
